The cenotaph and memorial gates with the associated Aleppo Pine are socially valued (Criterion G) for the manner in which they memorialise the fallen of Glen Waverley and recall the national effort during the world wars. Their location is important in that its underscores the continuing presence of the reserved land at the former Black Flat settlement.

Glen Waverley WWI Memorial - Physical Description 1
The cenotaph is an exfoliated grey granite obelisk designed in two stages and mounted on an axe finished plinth with a raised and planted white gravel surround. The names of the fallen have been recorded with the inscription: "For King and Country erected as a grateful tribute to the men of Glen Waverley who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War 1914-1918. Their names liveth forevermore".
The memorial gates are in wrought iron and incorporate the words "Lest We Forget" in their design. They have sandstone pillars and plaques commemorating the fallen in the Second World War.
There is an associated Aleppo Pine (Pinus halepensis), a direct descendent of the "Lone Pine" at Gallipoli, grown by the Forest Commission from seeds collected in 1976 and planted here on Remembrance Day, 1981.
