Statement of Significance
THE BREWERY WAS VERY IMPORTANT SOCIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY TO THE PEOPLE OF ST ARNAUD AND SURROUNDING DISTRICTS FOR ALMOST 50 YEARS. HISTORIC RECORDS SHOW THAT THE BEWERY HAD ITS OWN BOTTLE AND MAKERS STAMP AND THAT ITS PRODUCTS SERVICED A LARGE PORTION OF THE WIMMERA DISTRICT OF WESTERN VICTORIA. THE BREWERY IS A RELATIVELY RARE EXAMPLE OF A ONCE COMMON INDUSTRY IN RURAL 19TH-C VICTORIA.

ST ARNAUD BREWERY - History
SEE SITE CARD'S ACCOMPANYING SHEET. DETAILED.ST ARNAUD BREWERY - Interpretation of Site
On the surface it appears not much remains of the old St Arnaud Brewery. The timber, corrugated iron and machinery was probably torn down and sold after the brewery closed down. Despite the buildings no longer being present, the features and artefacts that remain form an important archaeological site representing the brewing industry in rural 19th century Victoria.
Heritage Inventory Description
ST ARNAUD BREWERY - Heritage Inventory Description
The most important elements of the site include the stone foundations on the creek bank that show the position of the main building of the brewery running east-west. Also important is the dam in which water was stored for the brewing process. When the water was needed it was pumped to the brewing house by horse power through the stone lined race.
