CAMPASPE WEIR - History
THE FIRST CAMPASPE WEIR WAS CONSTRUCTED IN THE EARLY 1840S AS ONE OF THE REGIONS FIRST IRRIGATION SCHEMES, DIVERTED WATER FOR STOCK AND CROPS. FAILURE OF THE WEIR IN FLOODS DURING 1930S LED TO ITS UPGRADING TO CONCRETE IN 1940.CAMPASPE WEIR - Interpretation of Site
ORIGINAL TIMBER WEIR WAS REPLACED IN PART IN 1940S WITH MASSIVE CONCRETE STRUCTURE. HOWEVER, EASTERN END OF THE WEIR WAS BURIED WITH ROCK AND SOIL AND SILTED UP IN POND WHICH IS NOW PRESERVED.

Massive concrete weir with remnants of original 1840s timber crib log and rubble weir. Evidence of other construction work to east and west banks.
CONCRETE WEIR, SPILLWAY, RUBBISH DUMP, EARTHEN BANK, CONCRETE FLOODWAY, ROCK FILL, EVIDENCE OF REMAINS OF EARLIER TIMBER WEIR.
