Statement of Significance
The property is considered to be local historical significance due to its association with the Coowerp homestead. The homestead itself is of historical significance to the local community as well as the Yarra Valley region. The significance is the subject of a concurrent study. [See site card.]

COOWERP HOMESTEAD AND SURROUNDS - History
PROPERTY PROBABLY FOUNDED AROUND 1823. [SEE SITE CARD.]
Thomas MacIntyre settled in Yering in 1852 and the Coowerp Homestead was built by his son Gilbert in 1880. Homestead was put up for auction in 1922.
