CLONBINANE SCHOOL SITE - History
FORMERLY KNOWN AS UPPER SUNDAY CREEK, THIS SCHOOL WAS OPENED IN 1875 BY HT FRANCIS SHERLOCK. THE SCHOOL CLOSED AND RE-OPENED SEVERAL TIMES, SERVED ON A HALF-TIME BASIS WITH SS1200 GLENBURNIE. IN 1903, THE NAME WAS CHANGED TO SS1653 CLONBINANE WHEN IT WAS MOVED ON TO THE MAIN ROAD TO CLONBINANE.
IT CLOSED IN 1916 AND RE-OPENED IN 1928, FINALLY CLOSING FOR GOOD IN 1948. AMONGST THE TEACHERS WERE MISSES SEYMOUR, G MCDONALD, POLE, G QUIRK, APPLEBY AND MESSRS COX, FENNER (KILLED IN WWI) AND GHENT.
