MIDDLE PARK BATHS - History
This facility was built in 1890 during the resurgence of seaside popularity. The baths are labelled in an 1891 plan as facilities for gentlemen. The baths were still in existence in 1925, but it is unclear when they were removed.MIDDLE PARK BATHS - Interpretation of Site
The mobile sand environment in this area may have reburied these remains. The shoreward end of the site is now occupied by the Middle Park Lifesaving Club, which was once the Harold Alexander Pavilion. This building has a bluestone ground floor with a brick upper level, and is attached to an extensive changing rooms complex, which probably dates to the late 1920's - early 1930's. Immediately in front of this buildings concrete seawall is a line of large bluestone boulders, but it is unclear whether they were used in this buildings construction or date to an earlier period such as the baths. This bath may have significant archaeological deposits underwater. Part of the recreational and bathing landscape of Melbourne and Middle Park.
