REEDY FLAT GRAVES - History
This is a small cemetery on private land believed to have operated before 1900, in association with Cooper's Accommodation House. L Barraclough lists burials as Mrs cooper and baby, Martin boy, Bayliss boy. Rogers & Heylar record four graves: - Baylis (infant); - Martin (infant); John William Cooper, aged 53 years, died of lung disease 10 Aug 1885; Henry Cooper, aged 5 years, died of croup 15 July 1883, son of Isabella and John Cooper. Charles Langtree, a former owner of the property, placed the concrete posts in the ground in order to permanently mark the grave positions, then still visible.Heritage Inventory Description
REEDY FLAT GRAVES - Heritage Inventory Description
Four concrete pegs (originally painted white) marks the area of the graves and the fence straddles the marked area. The graves have been grazed over, some slight bumps and depressions visible, but may not bear any relationship to graves - similiar features are visible over the entire hillside. There are no marked graves or headstones.
The graves are situated in the corner of a grassy paddocl, above a steep road cutting, overlooking Sandy Creek. A new fenceline adjacent to the road straddles the graves, and on the very edge of the cutting, the remnants of an earlier fence can be seen. The site of Coopers accommodation house is about 1 km to the south-south-west, over a ridge.
Physical Conditions: Poor. Concrete marker posts in good condition.
