FORMER DOHERTY'S ROAD HOMESTEAD COMPLEX - History
The place history is unknown. The house is shown on a 1915 Army survey plan and so must date before 1915. Positioned right on Dry Creek bank it is possible the structure once served as an inn. More historical research is required for this site.FORMER DOHERTY'S ROAD HOMESTEAD COMPLEX - Interpretation of Site
The earliest components of the site appear to be the house itself. The concrete slab surrounding the house is probably a later addition, as would be the septic tank system and the steel windmill arrangement. The house structure could date to the mid 19th century with the other main components representing continued occupation of the site.
FORMER DOHERTY'S ROAD HOMESTEAD COMPLEX - Archaeological Significance
Quite a lot of this site's features are in good condition and an archaeological excavation would reveal much more about the site's occupants and period of use. However, with so little background information known about the site, its archaeological significance is only rated at medium.
FORMER DOHERTY'S ROAD HOMESTEAD COMPLEX - Historical Significance
This site holds medium significance as an example of early settlement within the region and insight into what may have 'made' or 'broken' individual community families. As a well constructed residence that shows some continuation through time, this site would make interesting research in regard to the markup of the local community.
