Statement of Significance
Site dates from early 20th century at least, and is probably the early farm house site for this property (50 acre property). Part of the unwritten history of Doreen/Mernda area

FOUNDATIONS, COOKES ROAD - History
Property originally part of Cookes Brothers "Egglestone Estate'. In 1861 they sold land between Yan Yean (east) and John Street / Bassett Road (west) in three blocks. Mrs Dorbin purchased the 50 acres east of Bassetts Road. By 1920 a building is shown as present on Cookes Road in this location. A building is also shown in 1935, at the same time as buildings are shown at the northern end of property, off north end of Bassetts Road.FOUNDATIONS, COOKES ROAD - Interpretation of Site

Heritage Inventory Description
FOUNDATIONS, COOKES ROAD - Heritage Inventory Description
Feature consists of rows of brick foundations leading north from Cookes Road fenceline and in situ sedimentary stones/rocks and bluestone as either foundations or surfaces. This feature extends to rubble mound which appears to be composed of large bluestone blocks, bricks and conglomerate. These features lie within a disturbed and uneven area of paddock which is variously flat, slightly mounded or excavated, over an area of approximately 30x15 metres.
