KILMORE EAST STATION COMPLEX - History
The station was originally opened as Kilmore Station on 18 April 1872. Refreshment rooms and a watering place for trains were built in 1873 and located on the down side of the railway. A goods shed was also located on the down side of the railway. In 1878, a large timber station identical to that at Wallan was built, before being replaced in 1939 by the current structure on the down platform. Timber loading ramps and sidings were also added to the station in 1878. The up platform was built in 1886. Watering facilities for the trains were also located on the up side of the railway. On 1 October 1888, the station was renamed Kilmore East, as a Kilmore station was constructed within the Kilmore township itself.KILMORE EAST STATION COMPLEX - Interpretation of Site
Historical plans indicate that there is potential for further sub-surface deposits. The features listed on the plan must have been removed prior to 1966, as these structures are not distinguishable in an aerial photograph of the station taken in that year.
