St Kilda Victoria Cross Sculpture - Veterans Description for Public
The St Kilda Memorial Sculpture, in Alfred Square Gardens, was erected 21st April 1985. The sculpture depicts a white figure emerging from a tablet, thrusting his arms upwards with a rifle in his hands. The sculpture commemorates four Victoria Cross winners; Captain A. Jacka, Major W. Ruthven, Lt. L.D. McCarthy and Ft. Lt W.E. Newton. It is also dedicated to the service of all Australians in the First World War, Second World War, Korea, Malaya, Borneo and Vietnam.
