St Georges Hotel - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
The origin appearance of this hotel is clearly visibly in the attached photograph. (SLV) it was a two storey brick building with a hipped roof and slate roof. The front facade was flush with the street and contained simple rectangular openings for the doors and windows. Decorative elements include the flat arched, brick voissoirs, the moulded string course and the perforated brick parapet. The front past of the building dates from 1853-54 and the rear two wings probably date from 1855-56. In 1922 a laundry was added and in 1925 Buchan, Laird and Buchan added a bathroom and a covered way, across the front facade a balcony and verandah was also added. More recently a new facade and canterlevered verandah has been added, obscuring the front elevation.
