Statement of Significance
The two storey brick residence of 2 Skene Street, Newtown was erected in 1854 for Edward Snell, Geelong Architect and engineer for the Geelong-Melbourne railway. William Weire, Geelong's first town clerk, later occupied this house and in 1867 George Morrison, founder of the Geelong College, became the owner. This building has been substantially altered and improved with much of the original structure as designed by Snell concealed in later works. The residence survives as an early Geelong building.
