Statement of Significance
Contribution to landscape of hstoric garden, historic planting style
Outstanding size
Aesthetic significance
Outstanding example of species
This pair of Bhutan Cypress (Cupressus torulosa) at the East Gate make a significant aesthetic contribution to the immediate landscape of Russell Street and Lock Avenue. Their height-girth-spread dimensions make them prime specimens of the species within a suburban/residential environment. Planted on either side of the east driveway entrance to the property (Lock Avenue boundary) they stand guard over a culturally and historically significant residence set within a four acre 1940s arboretum-style garden.
On 17 January 2012 , a freak wind twisted an axillary limb; there is now a gap between the two canopies.
