Former Wangarratta Rifle Range (WW2) - Veterans Description for Public
This army weapon training range was established in 1940 and used until 1945. Local units of the Volunteer Defence Corps also trained there. Located 12 kms from Wangaratta, the range was 900 yards (823m) long with shooting mounds every 100 yards (91m). The backstops, the target butt, some of the shooting mounds, and part of a shed concrete slab still remain. The site is bounded by Warby Range, Gravel Pit, and Futters Roads inWangaratta South.
