STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The former manse and vestry of St. Giles Presbyterian Church (also known as the High Church) was erected in 1872-73 for the minister of the adjacent church. This single storey brick building is designed in a picturesque villa mode, characterised by a steeply pitched slate roof and dominant end gables. The former manse has associations with the adjacent St. Giles Church designed by architect Nathaniel Billing in 1859. Alterations to the fabric early in the 20th century have impaired the original architectural qualities of this most unusually designed villa.
