Residence - Physical Description 1
14 Humble Street is substantially intact double fronted timber residence retaining many notable Federation and Art Nouveau details. The facade is asymmetrical with a prominent gable at the front and side, a large corrugated iron hipped roof and a Federation style return verandah. The gable features a half timbered effect, brackets, stucco, and a tripartite casement window with lead light glazing. The verandah has unusual timber details, including simple posts with a timber valance, Art Nouveau brackets, and, in the gable at the front, large curvilinear elements acting as decorative supports. Similar oversized brackets are found on the window hood in the side gable. On the corner of the building is a typical casement bay window with lead light glazing and imitation timber wall shingles below. A small gable is also found in the roof space. It has the same infill details as the other gables, but simpler windows and is likely to be a later addition along with the side skillion. A recent extension and a skillion are found at the rear of the building. A tall brick and render chimney protrudes from the roof and has terracotta pots. The building has a timber verandah floor and sits on a brick plinth. The entrance has a sidelight and highlight and appears to be the original. At the rear of the site are a number of timber outbuildings as well as a garage with original timber doors. The garden is terraced.
