Statement of Significance
A Listed - State Significance
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCEThe Auction mart at Little Malop Street was erected in 1877 for noted Geelong auctioneers, W F Ducker and Co., adjacent earlier established premises. The Victorian eclectic style building, built of brick with stone dressings and internal timber embellishments was designed by noted Geelong architect, Alexander Davison. The style is highly original and without parallel in Geelong. The decorative elements are noteworthy. W F Ducker was a distinguished Geelong citizen and mayor of the city from 1870-72. The auction rooms survive intact, except for the painter facade.
