The rear later sheds do not contribute to the significance of the site.
How is it significant?
The Garage located at 941 Heidelberg-Kinglake Road, Hurstbridge is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the Shire of Nillumbik.
Why is it significant?
The Garage is historically significant for its demonstration of the establishment of Hurstbridge as a commercial centre in the early 20th Century. The circa 1918 construction date of the garage and saleroom represents the period of high activity in Hurstbridge following the extension of the railway from Eltham to Hurstbridge in 1912. (Criterion A)
The Garage is aesthetically significant as an early commercial building exhibiting common characteristics with other pre 1930s buildings in the township. The garage is significant for its contribution to the surviving collection of early 20th century buildings in the main street of Hurstbridge indicating the appearance of the township during its hey day around the 1920s. (Criteria D & E)

Garage - Physical Description 1
The garage located at 941 Heidelberg-Kinglake Road is a simple rectangular single storey building. The building is constructed to the street line and is timber framed with in corrugated iron sheet cladding. The building has a gable roof running perpendicular to Heidelberg-Kinglake Road. This roof is clad with corrugated iron sheets. There is painted signage to the front of the building relating to the car workshop use. The front elevation of the building contains a large rectangular roller door opening. It is assumed that the former boot maker business would have had some sort of shop front to the front elevation. Any evidence of this has since been removed.
The later workshop buildings to the rear of the site are not significant.
