Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Brighton Girraween formerly Methodist Chapel - Memorial Window Description & History
No details of the design have been found, however it was similar in style and format to the Honour Roll windows that Melbourne stained glass artist William Montgomery completed completed for the Wesleyan church, Lydiard Street, Ballarat. Errors were made in the spelling of names for the Honour Roll supplied to Montgomery, a not uncommon problem. In aletter tothe Honorary Secretary, Mr. WH Cripps,he suggested waysan extra name could be added andhow best tomake all the names more legible. The first option was to replace part of the ornament with the name and to re-paint the scrolls. This aimed to take away the brilliance of the glass and make the lettering stand out. He quoted £5.4.0 for this option. An alternative solution was to repaint the scrolls in a different style of lettering at an estimate estimate of £10. The cheaper option was accepted and completed. An account was sent on 3 March 1921, and £12.2.6 (which included other outstanding debts) was paid on 22 April.
