Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Maffra St.John's Anglican Church - Memorial Window Description & History
When the commemorative window to VAD Louie B Riggall was erected in March 1919, there was already mention of a companion window to be installed in the chancel. The Bishop of Gippsland, Dr. Cranswick, at the conclusion of his address at the unveiling, noted that 'Mrs. J. Mills had promised a memorial window in honour of local men who had paid the supreme sacrifice, while another would be paid for by voluntary donations'. Rebecca Mills was a generous benefactor to the church over many years. The window by Brooks, Robinson & Co. of Melbourne was installed by June of the same year when the church was visited by the Governor-General and Lady Helen Munro-Ferguson, who came specifically to see the two war memorial windows as part of their tour of the district.
