SHEPHERD/BOUNDARY RIDER'S HUT & STOCKYARD - History
Little historical information is known of the hut and stockyards. The materials and construction technique indicate they date to the middle of the 19th century and are most likely associated with the Mount Violet Estate. The hut is ruined and likely has preserved subsurface archaeological deposits. Since it is located near the boundary with Terrinallum Estate, the hut may haven a shepherd's or boundary rider's hut. Such examples are relatively rare. The stockyard is relatively intact and a fine example of dry stone walling, the original opening and wall terminals are well preserved.
SHEPHERD/BOUNDARY RIDER'S HUT & STOCKYARD - Archaeological Significance
The site likely represents a shepherd's or boundary rider's hut from the mid nineteenth century. The place has moderate potential for subsurface archaeological deposits at the hut site.
