Statement of Significance
B Listed - Regional Significance
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE The Free Presbyterian Church, also known as the Gaelic Church and the Highland Presbyterian Church was erected 1858-9 to the designs of Geelong architect Christopher Porter. The stucco rendered masonry structure designed as an eclectic and transitional fusion of Colonial Georgian with Gothic and Classically derived ornamentation has important associations with the establishment of the Free Presbyterian Church congregation in Geelong and with the large serving incumbent (1881-1932) the Rev. John Sinclair. The Church is one of few surviving works of architect Christopher Porter and a notable example of a preaching church in Victoria.RECOMMENDATIONS: PROTECTIVE MEASURES
