FORMER COURT HOUSE SITE - History
The courthouse was officially opened in 1856. Its location was chosen due to its proximity to the gaol and to the Mounted Police Barracks. Prior to its opening, proceedings were held in the Police Office. In 1878, discussions of a larger courthouse were sought. Not long after, proceedings were moved to the site on Gherinhap Street.
