20 SOUTH GIPPSLAND HIGHWAY RESIDENCE - History
As with 23-25 South Gippsland Highway, the 1925 and 1938 plans indicate that there were a number of dwellings on the east and west sides of South Gippsland Highway at this time, including within the property at 20 South Gippsland Highway. This property remained in private residential ownership until 1955 when it was purchased by S. A. Rubber Mills Ltd. The industrial development of this property began in the mid-1950s, associated with the purchase of the property by the rubber mills, and had increased by the early 1970s, although this development was limited to the northern extent of the property and does not appear to have affected the southern portion of this property included within the investigation area.
