Statement of Significance
In 1883, Henry, Robert and William Hudson of Hudson Bros, Sydney purchased the site. A plan of subdivision was lodged in 1886. The first allotments sold by the Hudson brothers were closest to the railway station, in the vicinity of Robert Street, William Street (now Bolton), The Avenue and Hudsons Road as well as Craig, Raleigh and Robb streets. In 1888, the Spottiswoode Estate Company was formed for the purpose of purchasing land at Spottswood which was owned by the Hudson brothers. Both Henry and Robert Hudson held 5,000 shares in the company which went into liquidation in 1894. There were multiple short-term leases of the site in this period.
The archaeological recordof this place, will contribute to our understanding of Melbourne's developing industrial and commercial heritage within the Spotswood Industrial Precinct
