Statement of Significance
Significant
A Listed - State Significance
Historically, the most significant remaining element from a major hospital building programme which is still an effective evocation of the former complex and hence a reminder of the large contribution made by Geelong citizens towards its construction. Architecturally, representative of one of the few large hospital complexes built in this era and, stylistically advanced in its use of an American-bred continental style, which was to achieve suburban popularity some five years later.

Alexander Miller Memorial Homes - Physical Description 1
Differing from the Bungalow style and pavilion form of the later complexes, this red brick and stucco building occupies a prominent triangular comer site. Underscoring this fact, the Edwardian Freestyle design features a slender tower after the precedent of other benevolent complexes such as the Haimes Memorial Homes in McKillop Street. The free treatment and ornament have led some to believe that this was another Robert Haddon design consultancy to Laird & Buchan.
Alexander Miller Memorial Homes - Physical Description 2
Unusual & intact row houses with Art Nouveau detailing. Red brick & render, gable roof clad in corrugated metal sheeting, prominent central tower, exposed rafter ends, shingles & decorative brackets to gable ends, brick verandah with tiled deck, basalt edge & foliate brackets. Timber boxed frame sash windows with brackets beneath, original timber doors with glazed top panel & highlight, rendered chimneys with terracotta pots.
