What is significant?
This Red Ironbark tree is one of ten Big Trees in Wellsford State Forest. The tree is located between Jay Track and Trunk Track along the Ellesmere Goornong Channel.
How is it significant?
This Red Ironbark is significant for scientific and social reasons at the Regional level.
Why is it significant?
This Red Ironbark tree is scientifically significant for its large size. It is one of the ten largest trees in the forest. Furthermore, it is socially significant for its contribution to the native forest landscape which is affected by logging. The tree is one of the few hollow bearing trees left in the forest which provide important habitat for native fauna. The tree is frequently visited by conservationists, children and members of the Bendigo Family Nature Club to learn about Box-ironbark Forest ecology.
