Statement of Significance
What is significant?
An individual Myrtle Beech growing amongst a stand of four smaller Myrtle Beeches on a private property.
How is it significant?
This Myrtle Beech is significant for scientific and landscape reasons at the Regional level.
Why is it significant?
This Myrtle Beech is scientifically significant for its rare/restricted natural distribution. It is now found only in small pockets in forests. The tree is also significant for its contribution to the landscape in an area with a history of logging/deforestation. Small areas where these trees remain show what the forest ecosystem would have looked like prior to the land disturbance following European settlement.
