STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
This two storey polychromatic brick residence on Western Beach was designed and built by Davidson and Henderson, Geelong Architects as their own accommodation. The design is less exotic that other homesteads and public buildings in the French Romanesque mode, and is most notable for the use of hollow brick or cavity walls construction. This technique improved construction standards and this house is on of the earliest in Australia and is of technological interest. The villa was one of the first buildings on Western Beach, and set a fashionable standard when completed in 1874.
