What is significant?
An individual Southern Magnolia located in the garden of the Magnolia Mansfield venue.
How is it significant?
This tree is significant for scientific, historic and social reasons at the Regional level.
Why is it significant?
This Southern Magnolia is significant for scientific reasons as it is the largest of the original 3 Southern Magnolias in the region on the Register. This tree is believed to have been imported and distributed by Baron Ferdinand von Mueller in the 1860’s along with four other trees (another in Mansfield, one in Jamieson and two other trees with locations unknown).
This tree is also socially significant for its contribution to the landscape and garden of the heritage property which was formerly known as Carinya home of Harry and Harriet Sophia Amor. The property is now a restaurant/hospitality venue named the Magnolia.
