SHORT PIER - CLIFTON SPRINGS
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE:
The site consist of timber uprights (piles) of a once 603 foot (c109 metre) long jetty, at Clifton Springs. The jetty was constructed between July 1872 and March 1873 by contractor Mr. J King at a cost of ₤885.
The Short Pier has historic and social significance as part of the early settlement of this area, reflecting the importance of water transport to the communities around the Bellarine Peninsula. The site has the potential for scientific significance in terms of Maritime Archaeology. Cultural material relating to vessels which used the Short Pier is likely to be present along the length of the pier. The pier is also an earlt maritime structure relating to the settlement and economic history of this part of the Bellarine Peninsula.
It is of LOCAL cultural significance.

DESCRIPTION:
The site consist of timber uprights (piles) of once 603ft (c109 metres) jetty at Clifton Springs.
Condition: Ruins - deteriorated
Integrity: Disturbed - partly removed.
Direction of relocation.
Site is located immediately to the west of Clifton Springs boat ramp. Access boat ramp road from northern end of Jetty Road. Jetty piles can be seen from the top of the foreshore cliff.
