Statement of Significance
C Listed - Local Significance
The Post Box, adjacent to 51 Hitchcock Avenue, Barwon Heads, is aesthetically and historically significant at a LOCAL level. Although relocated to its current location in more recent times (c.1983), the circular column design with ogee shaped roof capped by a crown, banding and large door opening with an interesting handle (fist clutching a rod), is reflective of the common post boxes in Victoria between 1890 and 1920. These post boxes are now largely out of service and few remain as working post boxes. Overall, the Post Box, adjacent to 51 Hitchcock Avenue, Barwon Heads, is of LOCAL significance.
