Residence - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
The site at 6 Tasman Avenue has typical front and side setbacks, with a driveway along the side. These setbacks are shown on the 1960 GWST Plan of Drainage.4 The front is bound by a recent timber picket fence (of Victorian design), approximately 1200mm high.
The asymmetrical, single storey, weatherboard interwar Californian Bungalow house is characterised by a dominant gable roof form and a verandah gable that projects towards the street frontage. These roof forms appear to be clad in corrugated zincalume. Wide overhangs and exposed rafters are features of the eaves. The early timber framed windows are arranged in horizontal banks on the street facade. They have wide central fixed lights with bowed sashes, and narrow double hung windows at the sides. The front timber and glazed door and sidelight also appears to be early.
A feature of the design is the projecting verandah gable. It is supported by early? timber posts which in turn are supported by rendered brick piers with concrete cappings. A solid rendered brick balustrade with a concrete capping forms the verandah boundary. The timber verandah brackets and lattice screen appear to be recent additions.
Early decorative features of the design include the window leadlighting and the decorative gable infill (brackets and ventilators).
