RYAN CORNER HUNTING HIDE 1 - History
The history of the site is unknown. However the property the site is located on was also the location of the first squatting license for the district in 1839. John Ritchie was the first to taken up land in the area, building his first home in the south west of the property, Aringa station. The property has run cattle & sheep since it was first settled.
NOTE: Although no information was provided about the site, local farmers mentioned past activities involving construction of small structures using locally available basalt. These structures included stock pens & dry stone walls.

The size, extent & location of the site suggests its usage as a hunting hide. No artefacts were found associated with the structure. Although its condition & state of preservation points to a recent construction. The site is well placed on a rise overlooking a swamp.
Heritage Inventory Description
RYAN CORNER HUNTING HIDE 1 - Heritage Inventory Description
Site is a circular structure, roughly 1.8m in diameter, constructed out of locally available basalt boulders. Structrue is comprised of three layers of rock. Given the size & shape of the structure it is most likely a hunting hide.
The site is composed of at least 27 basalt boulders arranged ina circular fashion, 3 layers high. The rocks range in size from 150mm to 850mm across.
Physical Conditions: The stone structure is mostly intact with some dislodged rocks.
