According to local land owner, the well was built during the 1940s to provide water supplies for a nearby US army camp.

GOULBURN PUMP & WELL - Heritage Inventory Description
Disused wet well & pump shed located on the sth bank of the Goulburn River. The well is enclosed in an embankment.
Concrete water well 8m long by 5m wide x 8m high. Grassy embankment 30m x 12m extending north/south up the river bank.
Physical Conditions: Fair condition well still retains some water.
