DOMINO TRAMWAY SITE - History
Around 1874 a mill was established at the head of the Coliban River by J.H. Wheeler. Wheeler had many mills in the area, continually moving as each areas was cut out. Wheeler laid three miles of tramway along the Coliban River- approximately 5 feet guage to Lyonville. The Coliban Mill closed in 1893 (Haughton 1980: 54-56).DOMINO TRAMWAY SITE - Interpretation of Site
Tramway used for transporting timber.
It is likely that very little remains of this track. Identifying the tramway was difficult due to access and poor ground visibility. The track ran close to the River and at times it is very difficult to distinguish between river flat and tramway levelled ground.
