Statement of Significance
The Lysterfield Reservoir, formed in 1921 and part of the Lysterfield Lake Park since 1981, has regional significance as an important engineering construction designed as a major component of the district's water supply system. Built by local labour and using local granite and timber from foothills of the nearby Dandenong Ranges, the reservoir has significance in recent years as part of a popular park with tourist facilities, a wildlife sanctuary and a centre built in 1989 for environmental education purposes

Lysterfield Reservoir - Physical Description 1
Parts of this park are in the Shire of Sherbrooke and the City of Knox whilst the southern part, bounded by Horswood Road, is in the City of Berwick. A wildlife sanctuary was set aside in the north-east section to protect native flora and fauna. The Lysterfield Lake Park has become a popular tourist spot with parklands and facilities for walking, canoeing and sailing. There is a thriving wetlands wildlife population. The park is used also for environmental education purposes with a new education centre, built at a cost of $190,000.
