The largest tree of this group is of particularly significant size and age, while the smaller trees are probably seedlings from the oldest tree. Together they form a group of high landscape value.
REVISED STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: {with AHC criteria)
These English oaks (5 + 5) are significant to Nillumbik Shire:
- as uncommon for their maturity and type within the Shire (Criterion B2);
- for their association with local carrier Taylor, the link with the former Dendy flour mill site, as markers, and expression of former farming pursuits in the area (Criterion A4, H1);
- for their high landscape value (Criterion E1).

English oaks (5+5) - Physical Description 1
ELTHAM STUDY DESCRIPTON:
The largest (and probably parent) tree' is very large with a trunk diameter of approximately 1,000 mm and is about 15 metres tall. This tree is of good form and characteristic of this species. The smaller trees are seedlings but also of significant size. The group is located on the edge of open playing fields and adjacent to Diamond Creek in a visually prominent position.
REVISED OR EXTENDED DESCRIPTON:There are five English oaks' on what appears to be a former fence line and one later deodar cedar to the south. On the same property line and on the creek bank is another row of 5 oaks, larger than the upper row, with 'one specimen measuring approx. 25m tall, and 3.7m circumference.
Arguably the most famous of all the oaks and with a life span of 600 to 700 years, this species has spreading, heavily leafed branches providing good shade. Its 4 in (10 cm) long leaves are deciduous and remain dark green through fall (autumn). It eventually reaches a height of 120 ft (36 m) and trunks with a circumference of more than 70 ft (21 m) have been recorded. It is one of Europe's most valuable timber trees. 'Fastiqiata' is grown for its narrow, upright habit, while 'Concordia' is a rounded tree to 30 ft (9 m) {Botanlca}.
