Statement of Significance
A three manual Wurlitzer Hope-Jones Unit Orchestra of 15 extended ranks built by the Wurlitzer Company, of Tonawanda, New York for the Capitol Theatre, Melbourne when it opened in 1924. Here it was associated with the accompaniment of films and stage presentations by the resident organist Horace Weber and the broadcasts of Stanfield Holliday. It was moved to Brighton in 1967 where it remains largely unaltered and has continued to be used for concerts.
