Statement of Significance
This small bluestone cottage, one of only 2 stone buildings still standing in Brighton, was built in the 1850's or earlier. The site had originally been purchased in the 1850's by George Petter, a gardener. He sold it to Robert Gall,a contractor and it remained in the Gall family until 1917. During the Gall ownership it was occupied by various tenants.
Local legend has it that the cottage was once Brighton's first watchhouse or police station but this has been disproved.
