Statement of Significance
This symetrically proportioned building replacing 1881 baths destroyed by storm, was designed by Oakley and Parkes, Architects and completed in December 1936 for 8,500 pounds. It reflects the most recent styles emerging from Europe, particularly the work of WM Dudok in The Netherlands, during the late 1920's and early 1930's.
Curved corners, cream brick walls, a composition of overlapping masses, horizontal emohasis, no visible roofline and almost complete symmetry make the Baths an exceptional and early example of a style, popular in seaside locations.
