Statement of Significance
The Chemistry Building is of state historical and architectural significance as a distinctive modern interpretation of a collegiate Gothic style. The building was designed in the modern Gothic style by Percy Everett in 1938. Its cream brickwork, bold massing and tower decoration are notable.
The Chemistry Building forms part of a major phase of expansion at the University in the 1920's and 1930's. It also demonstrates the importance given by the university to the opinions of a range of experts, including chemists, during the inter-war period.
