Statement of Significance
A three-manual chamber organ of 12 stops begun by F W Slater, of Fitzroy, possibly for his residence, and completed by Frederick Taylor, of Hawthorn, before its installation at Carlton in 1912. Believed to be the smallest three-manual organ in Australia, the instrument is of interest for its fiddle back blackwood case, incorporating exposed wooden pipes and an elaborate cornice with dentil mouldings, its elegant refined sound, and its complex mechanical action.
