Classified: 25/01/1968
File Note: Stone erected by a few Colonists to commemorate the Aboriginal Native Chief Deremut, who by his timely information given October, 1835 to the first Colonists, Messrs, Fawkner, Lacey, Evans, Henry, Bateman and their dependants weresaved from massacre planned by some of the up-country tribes of aborigines.
Deremut died at Benevolent Asylum 28/05/1864, aged about 54 years.
