Statement of Significance
A prominent early church designed by Webb & Taylor and built in 1856-9, with aisles, sanctuary and the bulk of the tower added over the period 1881-9 to the design of Reed Henderson & Smart.
The most distinctive feature is the elongated tower and spire with closely clustered spirelets forming an unusually tight composition, perhaps influenced by Continental precedents. The church incorporates chancel furnishings by Alexander North and stained glass by E R Suffling of London, c.1884, and Willian Montgomery of Melbourne, c.1903-7.
