Statement of Significance
This school is important as one of 13 competition prize winning designs by private architects at the commencement of government school building, under the new Education Act of 1872 and serving subsequently as models for many future government designs.
Designed by the prominent architect Charles Webb and built by James Gillon, the west wing was opened in 1874 and the east wing was added in 1877 by the same architect and builder.
There have been internal and external alterations over the years particularly in 1915 when windows were altered, but these have only subtly affected the school's external appearance.
