Statement of Significance
Rathdowne Remnants occupies this building which was built around 1910 as an engineering works for John Welsh. The building is constructed of brick with a galvanised roof. The main bay in the centre has a gable at the front, the two side bays have flat roofs. In about 1928 a second storey comprising offices was added above the southern bay of the building.
All machinery was removed from the building when John Welsh moved to East Brunswick in 1940/1941. As well as the style of the building, some gears attached to the interior steelwork and a concrete block used for testing cranes remain as evidence that this was once an engineering works. The wooden mezzanine floors and staircases remain largely unaltered.
