Statement of Significance
The old Shire of Ferntree Gully Hall, a community centre since 1893, designed by Architect Henry Lording of North Melbourne, is of local social and historical singificance as a Victorian municipal government building associated with the area's development as a popular holiday district. Despite 1924 alterations, and the replacement in 1938 of the original Victorian entrance with a Modern-style brick vestibule by a local contractor, Joe Saville, some of the 1890s character of the building remains. The hall has local importance for its use for a variety of community purposes: as a Shire Hall from 1894 until the 1960s, as the City of Knox Library from 1967 to 1976 and, since 1981, as the Jesus Centre of the Charismatic Church of Christ.
