Statement of Significance
A plain and unadorned single-storey brick factory with a corrugated iron saw-tooth roof and south-facing skylight windows constructed in 1938/39 for Johns and Waygood specifically for the manufacture of mortar bomb cases. The building is notable for presenting an almost unrelenting form to the street. It is a rare extant example of a purpose-built ordnance factory in private possession, and a stark reminder of the significant contribution made by Australian engineering establishments to war material production in the period to 1945.
